As a gardener one of the most common questions I get asked, is how to grow plants from seeds, and I would like to tell you that, growing plants, flowers or vegetables from seed is not that tricky.

Just follow a few golden rules and you will be well on your way to having green fingers and a flourishing garden.

Also growing plants, flowers or vegetables from seed, can be more rewarding to a gardener, you get opportunity to plant seeds, and then watch them grow and come to life.

This will be less expensive than to buy plants, flowers or vegetables already grown by others, so can be a way of saving some money in the long run.

Different seeds have different requirements, but generally the process of planting seeds is the same.

First things first you should make a list of everything you need to begin planting and growing, then place everything in the work area so it’s close to hand.

Take each plant pot out of the bucket, and let them sit and drain for a while, if you are planting in the ground then the procedure would be the same, except you would have to water the soil in the ground, rather than water the plant pot.

One thing to check is that the seeds you are about to plant do not have any special requirements, as some seeds will not germinate unless you sow them when they are fresh and some will only grow in the dark or light.

Other types of seeds may need to be soaked in room temperature water for a few days prior to potting or planting, seeds that need stratification will have to be moistened in a rooting medium, and then kept in a freezer for a certain amount of time.  Seeds that have hard hulls may require scarification, which involves scratching or scarring of the seeds shell to enable germination.

Make some small holes in the soil, maybe about an inch apart as you will need to give each seed ample enough space to grow, also make sure you have made the hole deep enough so that the seeds have a great chance of growth.

There are however a number of seeds that do not require to be planted below surface level, which are fine seeds and seeds that require light for germination, and pelleted seeds should never be embedded too far into the soil,  just push them down so that they’re just covered.

Now your seeds have been set in the ground or in their plant pots, all you have to do is water them daily or every couple of days, depending on the environment they are being kept in, just be sure to check that the soil is wet and that the seeds to your plants have enough water in the soil.
