Top Considerations for the Best Aquarium Lighting Systems

Proper aquarium lighting is fundamental for a number of reasons. Light allows you to observe and admire fish in their natural habitat. In addition, with the right type of lighting, the inhabitants in the aquarium are able to survive. Besides fish, there are other organisms and plants, especially photosynthetic ones, which derive energy from this light. Therefore, fish tank lights are not only the main source of light, they are the only source. Right from the beginning, you should know that light is so important in all aquarium systems. The behavior of fish in an ecosystem depends on the amount of light filtering through the water.

If this is your first time to keep fish in an aquarium, then it is important for you to know the different options available. It does not matter how simple or sophisticated your aquarium system is. There are several categories of aquarium lighting namely normal, compact and high intensity. The first two use fluorescent lights while the third uses metal halide lights. More recently, LED aquarium lights have joined the foray of fish tank lights. LED aquarium lights are considered to be the top choice for aquariums where you intend to keep saltwater and freshwater fish. Most hobbyists will tell you of the versatility of these lights.

In aquarium lighting, you have a wide choice of bulbs and fixtures. Take for instance, the compact fluorescent lights. They have a higher output than their standard compatriots. In the place of single tubes, they utilize several of them in one fixture. Hence, a single compact fluorescent is able to do the task handled by two or more standard fluorescent bulbs. In the end you find that it helps you utilize the available lighting space. When it comes to maintenance, there is no difference between these fish tank lights and the standard types. Other benefits include low emission of heat and low maintenance cost. There is also a wide variety to choose from.

Going to the metal halide lights, these are also known as HID (high intensity discharge) aquarium lighting fixtures. They comprise of glass bulbs interconnected through wires. When electric charge passes through the glass tubes, they produce light by virtue of the material in them. These materials include metal salts and gases which are ideal for light production. Halide lights for reef aquarium lighting. This is mainly because of the types of fish found in such aquariums require high intensity light.

When choosing aquarium lighting fixtures, you need to consider the needs of the fish you are putting in there as well as your own. A fish tank lamp is more than a source of light. It brings out the overall beauty of the aquarium besides sustaining the life therein. Always ensure that you use the right lighting systems for your aquarium. How to grow plants flowers or vegetables from seeds

As a gardener one of the most common questions I get asked, is how to grow plants from seeds, and I would like to tell you that, growing plants, flowers or vegetables from seed is not that tricky.

Just follow a few golden rules and you will be well on your way to having green fingers and a flourishing garden.

Also growing plants, flowers or vegetables from seed, can be more rewarding to a gardener, you get opportunity to plant seeds, and then watch them grow and come to life.

This will be less expensive than to buy plants, flowers or vegetables already grown by others, so can be a way of saving some money in the long run.

Different seeds have different requirements, but generally the process of planting seeds is the same.

First things first you should make a list of everything you need to begin planting and growing, then place everything in the work area so it’s close to hand.

Now you have everything to hand it’s time to get dirty and to give your plants the best possible start, it’s always good to put down some fresh soil, do not use your gardens original earth, as it doesn’t have enough nutrients in the ground, and although your plants may grow, it will be a lot harder to start from seeds.

To give your seeds the best start always plant them is fresh soil, which you can buy from any of the home and gardening stores located in your area.

If you decide to grow a number of different seeds just remember to make up some waterproof labels, and write on them with a permanent marker pen, as the rain may wash away any other sort of pen leaving you not knowing what plant is what.

Now you have everything to hand it’s time to get dirty and to give your plants the best possible start, it’s always good to put down some fresh soil, do not use your gardens original earth, as it doesn’t have enough nutrients in the ground, and although your plants may grow, it will be a lot harder to start from seeds.

If you are planting the seeds in plant pots or flower pots, there are a few things to remember, fill the plant pot with soil about ¾ of the way up to the rim, now get a bucket of water and add ½ a teaspoon of Benomyl fungicide, then submerge each plant pot, into the bucket to drench the soil and allow it to moisten.

Take each plant pot out of the bucket, and let them sit and drain for a while, if you are planting in the ground then the procedure would be the same, except you would have to water the soil in the ground, rather than water the plant pot.

One thing to check is that the seeds you are about to plant do not have any special requirements, as some seeds will not germinate unless you sow them when they are fresh and some will only grow in the dark or light.

Other types of seeds may need to be soaked in room temperature water for a few days prior to potting or planting, seeds that need stratification will have to be moistened in a rooting medium, and then kept in a freezer for a certain amount of time.  Seeds that have hard hulls may require scarification, which involves scratching or scarring of the seeds shell to enable germination.

Make some small holes in the soil, maybe about an inch apart as you will need to give each seed ample enough space to grow, also make sure you have made the hole deep enough so that the seeds have a great chance of growth.

There are however a number of seeds that do not require to be planted below surface level, which are fine seeds and seeds that require light for germination, and pelleted seeds should never be embedded too far into the soil,  just push them down so that they’re just covered.

Now your seeds have been set in the ground or in their plant pots, all you have to do is water them daily or every couple of days, depending on the environment they are being kept in, just be sure to check that the soil is wet and that the seeds to your plants have enough water in the soil.

Soon you should see your plants, flowers or vegetables start to sprout through the top of the soil, that’s when you know that you have accomplished the germination of your seeds, and can feel proud of your achievements, time to sit back and watch your plants, flowers or vegetables grow and flourish leaving you feeling like a proper green fingered gardener.

Indoor Plant Grow Lights

Indoor plant grow lights are an important part of any successful indoor garden. If you want to have healthy plants that produce exceptionally high yields, they will need indoor plant grow lights. Correct lighting conditions from indoor plant grow lights will make the your indoor garden flourish. No matter if you are growing plants in soil, or with a hydroponics system like ebb and flow, deep water culture, and other hydroponic methods, having indoor plant grow lights is necessary to promote plant growth. In order to maximize the growth and potential of indoor gardens and get maximum yields from your plants, you must use indoor plant grow lights.

Indoor plant grow lights are used by indoor gardeners because of all the benefits they provide to plant growth and development. Indoor plant grow lights promote and maximize plant growth because they emit light energy in certain wavelengths and spectrum. Basically the light is replacing the natural sunlight they would typically receive. The type of light intensity, spectrum, and even the number of hours of light that plants need is determined by the type of plants and their growth stage – propagation, cloning, vegetation, flowering, budding, etc.. There are a many of different indoor plant grow lights that can be used from HID grow lights like metal halide grow lights (MH) and high pressure sodium grow lights (HPS), LED grow lights, compact fluorescent grow lights and other fluorescent grow lights, and more. Each of these indoor plant grow lights have their own unique benefits to plants in different growth stages.

Indoor plant grow lights very often used by indoor growers using hydroponics systems. With hydroponics, plants are grown in a grow medium like without using soil. The plants receive fertilizers and nutrition through a nutrient rich solution of dissolved nutrients in water. When used with the proper indoor plant grow lights, hydroponics systems will produce larger and healthier plants and crop yields. With hydroponics, you can control the fertilizers, nutrients, and minerals your plants require to maximize growth and yields. With the addition of indoor plant grow lights, you can control yet another very important part of what plants need to grow (light!), and optimize the type of light, and number of hours they receive so you always get consistent results!

Growing Marijuana Information

With a decision to start growing marijuana or growing your own medical marijuana garden there are important facts that you must follow before you get started. First, one of the most important things that you must do is have permission to grow in your town and be a licensed medical marijuana patient.

There are different laws around the world for marijuana cultivation so find out what you have to do to be legal in your area. Also make sure that you are growing only the amount of plants that is required by law, if all medical marijuana growers follow the law there is a better chance that one day this beautiful herb will be legal for medical patients around the world.

When starting you own medical garden whether it be indoors or outdoors it’s a good idea to find a good grow store or hydroponic store in your area. When starting your garden there are a list of materials that you must acquire to get started. Also locate a welding store in your area to find out how to purchase co2 tanks if growing indoors, co2 plays a big part in potent medical marijuana.

Some of the basic supplies that are a must when you grow marijuana, and it consists of :

Good Soil – good soil is a must when growing marijuana, I use an organic mix with my seedlings and clones that has enough nutrients to feed the plant up to 30 days then I transplant the plant in to a bigger container and switch to an organic soil less medium that is made up of different components such as moss and peat which contains no nutrients so I can add in my own.

Proper Nutrients – a plant must eat, just as you do, to thrive an stay alive especially when the plants are in the budding stage. Do some research and find a good nutrient base for the vegetative stage as well as the flowering stage. You can find marijuana nutrients online or at your local hydroponic store.

Plastics Containers- In a marijuana plants life it will be transplanted 3 times. It will start in a small plastic cup whether started from seed or clone for 20-30 day to build the root structure, then it will be transplanted into a 1 gallon plastic pot/container for another 20-30 days to build the root structure even more. The bigger the roots the bigger the fruits! After the 30 days your plant will then make its journey to a 5–20 gallon pot/container to finish out its life cycle.

LED Grow Lights – if growing indoors it’s a must that you purchase good lights that can put off enough lumen to grow big beautiful buds.

Circular Fans- it’s good to have multiple fans in your grow room to keep the fresh air circulating and help keep the temperature in the room from getting too hot.

Timers- wall timers are used for the lights in the different growth stages, when the plants are in the vegetative stage the timers need to be set to turn the lights on for 18 hrs and shut the lights off for 6 and in the flowering stage the timers are set to go on for 12 hrs and go off for 12 hrs imitating the short days of autumn to induce flowering.

Temperature and Humidity Gauge- in the grow room it’s important to keep the temperature and the humidity at a steady number. When the plants are in the vegetative stage the humidity can be higher like 50%-75% but when in the flowering room we don’t want mold to grow on the buds so we keep the humidity around 30%. The temperature in both rooms should always be between 75-80 degrees, if the temperature fluctuates too much the plant will be effected.

There is a quick list of some things that are needed when starting your own medical garden. There are a lot of other very important factors that come in to play when growing your own medicine that’s why its important to do your research and find out all the ins and outs on growing marijuana.

Indoor Growing Kits : Hydroponics is the Way to Go

Hydroponic indoor growing kits may be currently unconventional, but they work. As a gardening method, hydroponics has been used since the beginning of recorded history. The term was originally derived from Latin and means “working water” and describes growing in water that contains dissolved nutrients. The plants are supported without soil, often inside indoor growing kits. How simple!

The advantages indoor growing kits provide using hydroponics are as varied as the people who use them. Indoor growing kits allow for growing crops where you normally could not.  Try to grow summertime vegetable favorites like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers in northern climates and see how you are subject to the climate and length of the growing season in your area. However, where there is any indoor dwelling suitable for people, growing plants indoors with indoor growing kits is possible.

Indoor growing kits using hydroponics needs no soil. You can grow without that limitation. Outdoor gardeners must contend with air and soil temperatures,  and quality which results in limited amounts of time for growing. Indoor growing kits give you the opportunity to grow and harvest fruits and vegetables year round with the added benefit of avoiding the mess of weeding, bugs, digging and frequent watering.

As a direct result of controlling every aspect of the environment with hydroponic indoor growing kits, everything is adjusted to the plant’s liking for maximum growth and yield. You can also get results from thirty to fifty percent faster. Indoor growing kits are the easiest solution for everyone, even beginners, to get started with hydroponic gardening. The choices and variety of different indoor growing kits will meet your indoor gardening needs, allowing for a personalized system. Deep water culture, wick and ebb and flow, are just a few of the hydroponic indoor growing kits available. Growing this way is considered more practical than traditional soil based gardening as it requires much less space (about twenty percent of the space of soil based gardening), uses fewer resources and produces results all year long.

Growing a garden using hydroponic growing kits also allows you to eat the produce you want, without the use of harmful pesticides.  There is simply less resource cost than soil based gardening. Hydroponic indoor growing kits use less than half of the water usually necessary for plant growth in soil. Whether you decide to be an organic gardener or not is your choice.  However, growing in your home you are able to grow without pesticides. There are whole communities and resources for organic hydroponic systems.

The advantages of hydroponic indoor growing kits, being endlessly versatile and adaptable to any environment, make it a good choice for everyone. Indoor gardening that flourishes with simple, inexpensive indoor growing kits are capable of expanding as your new hobby. What could be better than that?
